Utility Taxation (Util118)
This class is designed to discuss the different taxes imposed on the Electric Cooperatives by the State of Alabama. In the class, we will discuss/focus on the Utility Gross receipts taxes (Both sales and franchise taxes). we will also have a discussion about Alabama Property Taxes assessed on Electric Cooperatives. We will further discuss updated positions held by ADOR re: broadband property assessments.
There will be a deep discussion on how each of the utility sales taxes are imposed by the State and professional observations on how each cooperative needs to report in order to take advantage of credits and other ways to reduce the impact of these taxes on the cooperatives and their members. We will provide to each participant the detailed instructions regarding each type of tax and recommendations on the state imposed taxes.
We will also plan to discuss the IRS Form 990. We will discuss preparation tips and observations about how to prepare the Form and certain reporting requirements to assist you with the correct reporting of required information.
