Assertive Communication (Resource114) – 1 day/1 credit
Increasing pressure on rates, service and reliability require all employees to be prepared to deal with increasing member concerns. This course is designed to teach employees how to communicate assertively.
Assertive communication is a process that allows the communicator to express their needs, wants and opinions in a way which is considerate of others. Communicating in an assertive manner allows you to minimize conflict, control angry, increase clarity and understanding and develop more professional relationships with co-workers.
In this session we will use real world cooperative examples to teach employees how to convert passive aggressive communications to assertive communications styles. We will conduct a communication style assessment for each participant and then use interactive sessions to enhance their effectiveness.
The participants will leave with skills to:
• Use assertive communications methods.
• Handle difficult members with control and respect.
• Develop methods to express the cooperative’s position on tough issues.
• Project a self-assured image when communicating.
